Insights on AI phone answering, restaurant operations, and how real restaurants use DineCall AI.

How phone ordering and online ordering fit together

This page looks at the split between the two channels most restaurants run: someone picking up the phone and someone tapping Order on a screen. It covers what goes wrong when those two workflows stay separate — two sources of truth, two ways for a rush to go sideways — and what changes when both feed the same kitchen board instead of two different ones.

Most of the posts here are integration notes on specific platforms. Shift4 handles integrated payments and POS. RestoSuite runs the floor. Olo runs online ordering. In each case DineCall AI is the phone line, and the post spells out what each system is responsible for once both are live in the same restaurant. The point of each pair is narrow and worth stating plainly: these platforms are not in competition with each other, and the channel that none of them automates — a customer who picks up the phone and wants to order — is the one DineCall takes.

One practical note for anyone reading the vendor posts: none of them ask you to replace the POS you already run. DineCall AI operates alongside your existing point of sale, through an open, documented ordering API that synchronises tickets into selected POS terminals. The restaurant keeps its existing public phone number, and calls are routed to the AI by conditional forwarding — when the line is busy, when it rings out, or directly, depending on what you choose.
